OBITUARY

JAMES M. MACINTYRE, (99), of 14 Merry Lane, Gales Ferry, died Tuesday at Mariner Healthcare, Bridebrook, where he was resident for the last two years.

Mr. Macintyre was born on December 31, 1896, in Saltcoats, Scotland, the son of William McDougal and Annie Murdoch Macintyre.

He married JEAN GRANT, on January 23, 1923, in Stevenston, Scotland. She died on February 8, 1978.

He was a school teacher for 35 years.

He was a veteran of World War I and a life member of Lodge of St. John Royal Arch No. 320 Scotland.

He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Robert and William Macintyre, and four sisters.

LOSS BY FIRE

Yesterday morning shortly after eight o’clock, part of a house owned by Mr. Robert Aird, spirit merchant, and tenanted by Mr. William Mathieson, general dealer, at 6 Canal Street, Saltcoats, was destroyed by fire.

Originating in a kitchen downstairs, the fire spread rapidly, and very soon half the building was gutted. The brigade kept the fire confined, although fears were entertained for an adjoining public house.

The loss is estimated at £280 and is covered by insurance.

BREACH OF HOTEL LICENCE

At the monthly J.P. Court, held in the Town Hall, Saltcoats, on Friday last, WILLIAM H. DUNCAN, of the Saracen’s Head Hotel, was charged with having sold 12 pints of ale and porter on the 9th December last to parties in the locality not being bona-fide travellers.

The Magistrates found the charge proven and fined Mr. Duncan in the mitigated sum of £1 5s, with £1 10s expenses.
