DEATH OF AN EX-MAGISTRATE

The death is announced of Mr. John Boyd, Glasgow Street, Ardrossan.

Mr. Boyd was a native of Kilmaurs. He came to Ardrossan at an early age, and started business as a boot and shoemaker, retiring some six years ago.

Mr. Boyd took an active part in public affairs for many years, serving several terms on the Commission and for a period in the magistracy. In his public career he was prominently identified with the movement which resulted in the Castle Hill being granted to the town by the late Lord Eglinton, to be used as a public park.

He retired from the Commission about two years ago on account of failing health.

He died in his 75th year.

ORDINATION SERVICES AT ARDROSSAN

Yesterday Rev. R. M. ADAMSON, M.A., was ordained to the pastorate of Ardrossan Free Church. There was a large attendance of members of the Presbytery and congregation. Rev. Mr. Yule, Dunlop, presided and preached, and Rev. Hugh Ross, Kilmarnock, addressed minister and people.

In the afternoon a dinner was held in the Eglinton Arms Hotel – Mr. John Smith, senior, in the chair. The young minister received a warm welcome. Amongst the speakers were Rev. Dr. Addie, Edinburgh; Rev. A. Martin, Edinburgh; Rev. Mr. Adamson; Rev. J. R. Burt, Largo; and Rev. D. Landsborough, Kilmarnock.

A soiree was held in the church hall in the evening, when Mr. Adamson received the usual gifts, and Rev. William McKenzie, West Kilbride, also received a handsome gift as the reward of his services as moderator during the vacancy.

LAD DROWNED IN RESERVOIR

On Friday afternoon about one o’clock a lad named ARCHIBALD MACKENZIE, aged 18 years, son of Captain Malcolm Mackenzie, Glasgow Street, Ardrossan, went amissing. Considerable apprehension was felt for his safety. Search parties were organised, but inquiries prosecuted on Saturday were unavailing.

Yesterday morning his body was found floating in Parkhouse Reservoir, one of the reservoirs in connection with the Ardrossan Waterworks, and situated a little over half a mile from the town.

Meekan,

My first thought was Princes Street but most of the farm events recorded there are in the summer months. It's interesting however, that George Ardrossan, with exactly the same date (1 December) but in1893, has previously posted regarding an event at the Mill Farm, quoting - The corn and wheat stacks were at prices £2 to £4 above the estimates made by farmers on the spot before the sale, the corn stacks realising £14 to £16 and the wheat stacks £17 to £20.

POACHING

Yesterday, at the Justice of Peace Court, Saltcoats, JAMES REID, miner, and JOHN GREEN or GREENAN, dealer, Dalry, were charged at the instance of the Earl of Eglinton, with trespass on his lands at Ardrossan, in search of game.

They appeared and admitted being on the ground and the Justices, considering that they were there undesignedly, dismissed them with an admonition.
