HOUSEBREAKING AT SALTCOATS

Yesterday at a pleading diet at Ayr Sheriff and Jury Court, JOHN CONNOLLY, labourer, pleaded guilty to breaking into his employer’s house and stealing a quantity of jewellery and clothing.

He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.

SALTCOATS MAN KILLED AT VANCOUVER

An explosion at the Explosives Factory at Vancouver Island, British Columbia, caused the death of Mr. George Robb, who for a number of years resided in Saltcoats.

Mr. Robb was for about 15 years employed at Nobel’s Ardeer Factory, and afterwards engaged at the same class of work in South Africa.

Five years ago he went to Vancouver Island and was lately joined by his wife and family.

He was well known in Saltcoats and Stevenston district, where some of his relatives reside.

FOOTBALL – AYRSHIRE LEAGUE
SALTCOATS VICTORIA v. HURLFORD

These teams met at Saltcoats in presence of a large number of spectators.

In the first half the home team scored four goals and the visitors one goal.

On resuming the game was rather in favour of Victoria, but no more goals were gained by either team, Hurlford checking the vigorous attacks made on their goal.

Result: - Victoria, 4 goals; Hurlford, 1 goal.

MUNICIPAL MEETING – SALTCOATS

Bailie Duncan presiding.

The chairman moved and Bailie Miller seconded, that Captain Higgins be appointed Provost.

Mr. Kerr proposed, and Mr. T. Miller seconded, that Mr. McIsaac of Parkend, be re-elected Provost.

Five votes for Mr. McIsaac, and three for Captain Higgins, and the former was declared elected.
