ARDROSSAN CATTLE SHOW

The annual show of cattle, sheep, horses, dogs, and field and dairy produce, under the auspices of Ardrossan Farmers’ Society, came off on a field on the farm of Parkhouse yesterday in favourable weather.

There was a distinct falling off in several of the classes, but the quality was well maintained, and the number of popular events had been added to considerably. The number of entries for dogs was the largest for years.

ARDROSSAN FARMERS’ SOCIETY

The annual show of this society was held yesterday – the roots, grain, dairy produce, &c., being shown in the Town Hall, while the cattle and horses were shown in a field at North Crescent.

The show was one of the best ever held under the auspices of the society.

The show of roots was unusually good, some splendid specimens being shown in all the classes. The same remark is applicable to butter and cheese, especially the latter.

The show of seeds was somewhat inferior compared with that of last year.

There was a meagre display of poultry, but it was of superior quality.

The number of Ayrshire cattle was somewhat limited, but this was accounted for by the lateness of the season. The animals shown, however, were of a very superior kind.

The leading feature in the horse department was the admirable class of foals and yearling colts.

ARDROSSAN FREE CHURCH

The Rev. Allan Cameron, M.A., late of Govan, delivered the first of a series of lectures on the Early Christian Church in the Free Church, Ardrossan, on Sabbath night.

The church was crowded, and the lecturer spoke first of all on the external aspect of its influence; then he considered its social status, and spoke of its leaders in the Eastern and Western Churches. He referred, in closing, to the persecutions which afflicted the Church, and which visited its noble martyrs in the early ages of Christianity.

ARDROSSAN CATTLE SHOW

The annual show of cattle, horses, dogs, and dairy produce, held under the auspices of Ardrossan Farmers’ Society, took place on a field on the farm of Parkhouse yesterday.

The weather was very favourable.

Cattle and horses showed a distinct advance of quality on recent years.

ANNUAL MEETING AND FAIR AT ARDROSSAN

The annual competition of Ardrossan Farmers’ Society was held yesterday. Dairy produce, grain, seeds, roots, and vegetables were exhibited in the Assembly Hall, and cattle and horses in a field at North Crescent. There was a fair attendance. The day was wet and very cold.

Roots and butter were beyond the average.

FRAUD

Yesterday at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court PETER GEORGE LIVINGSTONE, a vagrant book canvasser, pleaded guilty to four acts of fraud between the 16th September and the 4th instant, committed in Kilmaurs and Ardrossan.

He represented himself as canvassing for a book called “Livingstone’s Songs, Poems, and Lectures,” price 3s 6d, and got the money in advance on promise that he would send on copies. This he failed to do, and appropriated the money to his own use.

He was sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment. Lately at Ayr he underwent 6 months’ imprisonment.
