Presumed killed on this date, Second Lieutenant JAMES ALEXANDER CHRYSTIE, (36), Royal Scots Fusiliers - Theatre of war, France and Flanders – son of Provost James Brown Chrystie, and Elma Eliza Chrystie, Ardrossan.

Don't know much about such things, but wonder what would have ignited the Dynamite in a situation like this.
I'd image such cargoes came to Ardrossan by rail? And here it was again heading back through the three towns.

Hi Hughie,
dynamite is classified as a primary explosive with a mass explosion risk. The impact would have been enough.

THEFT FROM R.M.S. GORILLA

At Ardrossan Burgh Court yesterday, JOHN LENNON, (19), labourer, of no fixed residence, appeared on a charge of having stolen a bag belonging to a seaman from the Belfast Steamer GORILLA.

It appeared that on Saturday night the accused went on board the GORILLA at Winton Pier, and the owner of the bag being away procuring a ticket, Lennon seized the opportunity and committed the theft.

The matter was reported to the police, and the thief was apprehended with the bag in his possession.

Sentence of 20 days’ imprisonment, without the option of a fine, was imposed.

PROMPT DESPATCH AT ARDROSSAN HARBOUR

On Saturday the steamer DUKE OF PORTLAND, belonging to Messrs J. & A. Wyllie, Troon, and loading at No. 2 hydraulic hoist a cargo of coals, consisting of 280 waggons, containing 1910 tons, took the first waggon on board at 10.15 a.m. and the last at 9.45 p.m.

This is an average of one waggon every 2½ minutes, and is excellent work.

RECKLESS DISCHARGING OF FIREARM

At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday JAMES ARMSMTRONG, labourer, Quarry Lane, Ardrossan, plead guilty to recklessly discharging five shots from a revolver in Montgomerie Street, Ardrossan, and on the public road leading to West Kilbride, on the 16th ultimo.

He was fined in £5 or 30 days’ imprisonment.

A number of girls had been very much frightened by Armstrong’s conduct.
