Breakplough, Stevenston
Where PRECISELY was this place?
I notice there are several different spellings too.
I'm sure I was told it was close to the now demolished Kerelaw school.
Also, are any of the buildings still there?

The Breakplough is on the road up to Kerlaw, it's just before the first farm on the left. The road through leads to Sinclair st.
be nice to your children, they'll pick your care home

Are the little cottages gone? My aunt lived on Glencairn which was just around the corner from the Breakplough (spelling ?). We often used to walk up there.
Re: Breakplough, Stevenston
After a recent enquiry by deborahferguson in the 'Kerelaw' topic on the Threetowners' Photo Album forum this is a pic or two of how the Breakplough looks these days. There's only one of the old Cottages left standing now but it looks to be in an excellent state of repair.
The first two photos were taken from Kerelaw rd.
And this one is looking back towards Kerelaw rd.

In other words, the future Sinclair Street would be directly behind the house in the centre of the older photo.
I hope that makes sense

The photo reminds me of the row of whitewashed cottages in a short cobbled street which I used to walk through on the way to the Cross from MacGregor Avenue, through the Millhill Road/Place cul de sac?
Is that still accessible?

Love these photos. Amazing how time wipes out places and changes everything.peterm1711 wrote:Michael, having studied the older pic I posted almost six years ago, I'm pretty certain the house on the extreme right, is the wee white cottage in your recent photos.

That was Begbie's dairy. The houses are still there, but the road is now a private access. The access to the Cross is all changed since they built Mount Pleasant

Here's a link to some more of those old pics which I posted earlier after a query in the Kerelaw topic.

Aye, the old Cottages at the Millhill Road/ Mount Pleasant area are fairly well screened off with wooden fencing and densely packed shrubery etc.John Donnelly wrote:Hi Exile.exile wrote:The photo reminds me of the row of whitewashed cottages in a short cobbled street which I used to walk through on the way to the Cross from MacGregor Avenue, through the Millhill Road/Place cul de sac?

A couple of days ago though I managed to squeeze my camera lens through a wee gap in a wooden gate and get the shot below.
If the Cottage owner sees this .. I hope you don't mind me posting this snap of your lovely wee hoose.
