MAY 1970

Labour made a clean sweep in Ardrossan and Kilwinning in the vmunicipal elections. Labour candidates also had convincing majorities in Saltcoats and in Stevenston.

Mr Joseph McManus was unanimously appointed Provost of Ardrossan.

Production in the detonator department at Ardeer Factory was held up because of an unofficial strike by 500 young women dissatisfied with wages increase.

Mr Robert Lambie, Saltcoats, received a presentation for 60 years service to the trade union movement.

JUNE 1970

Ardchoille Park bought by Stevenston Town Council.

The " Caledonia " made its maiden run to Arran.

Saltcoats Town Council Dean of Guild, Mr Alex Robb, resigned.

The former harbourmaster's house at Saltcoats Harbour became a museum.

Ardrossan Round Table held a " Donkey Derby " at Laighdykes.

Kerelaw Approved School, Stevenston, opened by Viscount Muirshiel.

Mr David Lambie, Saltcoats, was elected MP for Central Ayrshire and Sir Fitzroy Maclean returned for Bute and North Ayrshire at the general election.
