WIFE ASSAULT

At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday DAVID CURRAN, brusher, Main Street, Stevenston, pleaded guilty to having on the 14th instant assaulted his wife, Jane McLaughlan or Curran, by striking her several blows with his fists on the head and face.

Having been previously convicted, he was sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment.

17 APRIL 1894

ASSAULT

At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday ROBERT McKECHNIE, moulder, Station Square, Stevenston, was charged with having on the 14th instant assaulted Daniel Stewart, moulder, there, by striking him with a poker, knocking him to the ground, and kicking him on the body to the effusion of blood.

He pleaded guilty, and was fined in £2 or 20 days’ imprisonment.

FOOTBALL – AYRSHIRE LEAGUE
STEVENSTON THISTLE v. AYR PARKHOUSE

At Stevenston

Parkhouse looked like scoring during the first ten minutes, but were unlucky at goal. Thistle then pressed and scored two goals in the first half, both being taken by Cunningham.

In the second half the home team put on a third goal after eight minutes play. Monie doing the needful. Then Parkhouse scored their first point. Monie again put the ball through for Thistle. The game was well contested.

Result – Thistle, 4; Parkhouse, 1.

The annual cattle show under the auspices of Kilwinning and Stevenston Farmers’ Society was held yesterday on Oxenward Field, Kilwinning.

The weather conditions were most disagreeable, rain falling all day.

DEPUTATION TO STEVENSTON

The miners in the employment of Glengarnock Iron & Steel Company at Glengarnock ironstone pit took an idle day on Tuesday for the purpose of sending a deputation to Mr. Main, the managing partner, who resides in Stevenston, to request an advance of wages.

Not receiving a favourable reply, they remained idle yesterday, and were also joined by the same company’s men at Barkip and Barrmill.

They request an advance of 6d per day in the meantime.

FARMER'S DEATH IN FIELD.

Mr Robert Gibson, of the Broom Farm, Stevenston, Ayrshire, dropped dead in one of his fields while drilling potatoes. He was a well-known figure in Stevenston, land had farmed in the parish for many years. He was about 70 years of age.
