LET OF GRASS PARKS

A number of parks on the Home Farm of Kerelaw, Stevenston, were exposed on Saturday afternoon by Mr Symington, auctioneer, and though the prices obtained last for the same fields were very good, they showed a rise on the previous year of 7½ per cent.

CASUALTY OF WAR
15 FEBRUARY 1917

Died on service, Private MATTHEW LYNN, (23), 14th Battalion Canadian Infantry – Theatre of war, France and Flanders – son of Mr and Mrs James Lynn, 39 Townhead, Stevenston.

The Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald subsequently reported: -

“Mr and Mrs James Lynn, 39 Townhead, Stevenston, have received official information of the death of their son, Private Matthew Lynn, Canadians, who was killed in action on 15 February, 1917.

Private Lynn left Stevenston for Canada about four years ago, and was employed at the Beloeil Explosive Works when war broke out. He enlisted in Canada, and came to this country last November, in which month he visited his parents at Stevenston.

Private Lynn was 23 years of age, and had many friends in Stevenston, by whom he was much liked for his sterling qualities. His death is much regretted and there is a wide expression of sympathy for the bereaved family.”

CASUALTY OF WAR
15 FEBRUARY 1918

Died on service, Lieutenant DAVID LIVINGSTONE, (27), Royal Naval Reserve – Theatre of war – at sea – son of Helen Livingstone, Aberdeen, and the late Rev. John Livingstone, Free Church Manse, Stevenston.

PROPERTY SALE

The two-storey house in New Street, Stevenston, formerly the property of Mr R. Gilmour, was exposed for sale in the Mason Lodge, Stevenston, by Mr Stevenson, auctioneer, Kilmarnock, at the upset price of £150, and was purchased by Mr Stevenson at that sum.

The rental is about £13 and feu-duty nominal.

ROUP OF GRASS PARKS

The grass parks on the lands of Kerelaw were let by public roup on Saturday.

The total rental realised was £191 10s, an increase of £10 as compared with last year.

FRAUD

At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday, JOHN STEWART, a labourer, residing at Stevenston, pleaded guilty to a charge of falsehood, fraud, and wilful imposition, having, by false representations, on the 13th instant, at Ardeer pay-office, obtained a miner’s wages amounting to 30s.

He was sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment.

Died on service, Private THOMAS WINNING HALL, (24), born Stevenston, 2nd Battalion Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders – Theatre of war, France and Flanders – son of Mrs Dunbar (formerly Hall), 683 Dalmarnock Road, Glasgow.
