ARDROSSAN PARISH COUNCIL – THE NEW COUNCIL OFFICE PROPOSAL
The monthly meeting of the Parish Council was held in the Parish Council rooms, Glasgow Street, Ardrossan – Mr. John Anderson presiding.
Mr. Hugh Currie moved in terms of notice previously given, that a resolution passed on 8th August last, to the effect that a piece of ground near the boundary line between the burghs of Ardrossan and Saltcoats be secured for the purpose of erecting Council chambers, instead of having separate offices in Ardrossan and Saltcoats as at present, be rescinded, and the committee in charge of the proposal thanked for their services and discharged.
Captain Torrance seconded.
Mr. Alexander Hamilton, Saltcoats, moved the previous question, and Mr. Duff, Saltcoats, seconded.
On a division, the motion was carried by a majority of 8 votes to 6.

RAILWAY COMPANIES AND ARRAN SERVICE
Mr. Calthrop, general manager of the Caledonian Railway, received a deputation yesterday, representing residents of Whiting Bay, Lamlash, and Brodick, which waited upon him with reference to the withdrawal of the company’s steamer from the Ardrossan and Arran service.
It was urged that the curtailment of the service would have a prejudicial effect in regard to house-letting, and a suggestion was made for an extra run on Friday afternoon direct to Whiting Bay from Ardrossan.
Mr. Calthrop stated that this suggestion would be considered. The companies, he said, intended to make a trial of the restricted service for a year.
