GLASGOW HERALD
7 JUNE 1871
ARDROSSAN TOWN COUNCIL
The Council had their usual monthly meeting in the Town Clerk’s office on Monday evening – Provost Barr presiding.
The Provost reported that the minute to the Lord Advocate, directed to be prepared at the meeting of 5 May, had been handed by him to a party to be presented to the Lord Advocate, but that he had had no communication yet on the subject.
The Provost reported that some of the pavements had not yet been put in order, and moved that the Council should call a meeting of the Works’ Committee to have the work done.
The meeting instructed the Clerk along with the Inspector, to take the necessary steps in cases of parties desirous of getting their houses registered as lodging houses, and report to the Board of Supervision.
It was agreed that no water cart should be procured by the burgh.
A printed copy of a memorial to different Presbyteries of different denominations by the Provost, Bailies, and Councillors of Kilmarnock, was read as to abolishing Sacramental Fast Days; and the meeting agreed to take no steps in the matter.
This was all the business of interest.

GLASGOW HERALD
7 JUNE 1873
ARDROSSAN PAROCHIAL BOARD
The monthly meeting was held last night – Mr Ingram, chairman, presiding.
The chairman announced that he had been in communication with the clerk of the School Board in reference to providing a school rate. It was stated that the amount required was £450, which it was proposed to raise by an assessment of 4d per £1.
Several members held that the proposed rate was excessively high, and was creating much dissatisfaction amongst the ratepayers.
After some discussion, Mr Kirkhope moved the appointment of a committee to take into consideration the action of the School Board, and report to a future meeting, which was agreed upon.

GLASGOW HERALD
7 JUNE 1875
HOUSE LETTING – ARDROSSAN
The largest of our houses are fairly let, but we regret to say that many of the smaller class are still unoccupied. So long as the high rate of fares prevail on the Glasgow & South-Western Railway, so long shall we have an effectual barrier against our prosperity as a watering place.
Even in Arran, we believe, a good number of houses are still unlet – the late date of the school vacations in Glasgow being set down as the cause.

ARDROSSAN TOWN COUNCIL
The Council held its usual monthly meeting on the evening of Monday last, in the Town Clerk’s office – Provost Barr presiding.
It was agreed, on the motion of Bailie Hogarth, to take in offers to make the proposed drain in Quarry Lane.
Provost Barr intimated that the two Bailies and himself had waited upon Mr Moffat with reference to the drain to be carried out into the beach so far as the outlet may be washed by every neap tide, with a plan of what was proposed to be done.
It was agreed to remit it to the three magistrates.

It was intimated that the Sergeant of the County Constabulary in the district had received instructions since that Mr Shaw was to carry out the Act within the burgh of Ardrossan, which the meeting approved of.
