GLASGOW HERALD
26 SEPTEMBER 1888
CRANE ACCIDENT
Yesterday morning while the employees of Messrs Lawson, the new dock contractors, who are laying the concrete blocks for the breakwater outside Ardrossan Harbour, were at work near the Crinan Rock, an accident occurred whereby half-a-dozen men were thrown into the water, three of these sustaining slight injuries.
The punt containing the concrete blocks was lying alongside the pontoon with the lifting crane, and a heavy block was being raised to be lowered underneath the water, when the crane chain left the sheath, and the block falling on the punt’s bulwarks capsized it and threw the men on board into the water.
Dr. MacDonald was called, and attended the men. One man’s hand was badly bruised, but further than that all got off with a ducking and slight bruises.

THE IRISH CATTLE TRADE
The Irish cattle trade to Scottish ports is, telegraphs our Belfast correspondent, again being discussed, and is likely to occupy a good deal of public attention.
The Local Authorities of Dumfries have closed Ardrossan against the importation of Irish cattle from Belfast, on account of a statement that cattle from the infected province of Leinster were being shipped from this port.
