ARDROSSAN AND WEST KILBRIDE CATTLE SHOW

The annual show of the Ardrossan and West Kilbride Farmers’ Society was held at Seamill on Saturday, in fine weather.

There was an excellent turnout in all classes, the number of entries being considerably greater than in previous years. The section for horses was particularly well patronised, Clydesdales especially making a grand show.

MUNICIPAL MEETING – ARDROSSAN

Provost Harvey presiding.

Permission was granted to the North Ayrshire District Temple of Good Templars to hold an open air concert and demonstration on the Castle Hill in July.

A petition, signed by nineteen ice-cream vendors of aerated water within the burgh, was submitted suggesting certain modifications of the by-laws for the regulation of the trade, now being prepared by the council.

It was agreed not to consider the petition.

The burgh surveyor submitted a statement showing the cost of working the municipal refuse destructor. The expenditure was £317, and the income from material sold was £10 16s. The convenor of the Works Committee explained that the destructor would now be worked more cheaply, as, instead of having two men, the work would in future be undertaken by a man and a boy.

Bailie Chrystie complained that the ponies out for hire on the South Beach were a source of danger to children, and asked whether the council was not prepared to take steps to stop this nuisance.

After discussion Mr, Goodwin gave notice of motion that the council acquire the shore by purchase, and Bailie Chrystie gave notice of motion that the council frame by-laws for the regulation of the shores.

The sanitary inspector reported that he had received no actions under the Infectious Diseases Notification Act from the medical officer.

HOUSING FAMINE IN ARDROSSAN

At a largely attended meeting of ratepayers of Ardrossan and Saltcoats a resolution was passed protesting against the attitude and action of the local Town Councils and the inaction of the Ministry of Munitions and the Local Government Board concerning the housing question in the district, and demanding immediate action, and that all the houses let to people who had houses in other districts should be taken over at once for the housing of local workers.

It was stated that the number of individuals affected by the warning out of tenants by May 28 was 86 in Ardrossan and about 60 in Saltcoats.

ARDROSSAN AND WEST KILBRIDE CATTLE SHOW

The annual show of the Ardrossan and West Kilbride Farmers’ Society was held on Saturday at the farm lands of Drummilling, West Kilbride.

The weather, though very unpromising in the morning, turned out excellent as the day wore on, and large crowds of spectators were attracted to the show ground.

The number of exhibits was larger this year than on former occasions and of quite as excellent quality.
