GLASGOW HERALD
3 NOVEMBER 1883
ARDROSSAN PAROCHIAL BOARD
This body met last night in the Town Hall, Saltcoats – Mr. J. Fullarton presiding.
The report of the Board of Supervision’s visiting inspector stated that at the date of his visit the number of paupers was 96, and 51 dependants. He noted with satisfaction that the Parochial Board valued the poorhouse test as a satisfactory means of reducing pauperism, and hoped they would continue to carry out this principle still further, and strike off a few cases that appeared to be of a doubtful nature.

GLASGOW HERALD
3 NOVEMBER 1877
ARDROSSAN FARMERS’ SOCIETY
The annual show of this society was held in Ardrossan on Thursday, the cattle being exhibited on Montgomerie Green; while the poultry, grain, &c., were shown in the Town Hall.
The day being fine there was a large turn-out of spectators, many of them from a considerable distance.
The horses, which were all of the Clydesdale class, were of a very superior description, and it was generally admitted that the display was the largest ever held under the auspices of the society.
There was a small turn-out of Ayrshire cattle, but the one and two year old queys were very much thought of.
In dairy produce, grain, roots, and poultry, the entries were fully up to the average, though the backward season had evidently told on the roots, which were not so fine as at former competitions, and the same rule might be applied to grains. Butter was of excellent quality; and though the supplies of choice were small, the samples were very fair indeed.
Poultry, the entries of which were numerous, made a creditable appearance; and taken as a whole, the exhibition may justly be described as one of the best ever held in connection with the society.
The usual dinner of the members and friends took place in the Eglinton Arms Hotel in the afternoon, at which about sixty gentlemen were present. The chair was occupied by Mr. William Mutter of Meiklelaught, who was supported by Mr. Roger Montgomerie, M.P.; Provost Barr, Ardrossan; Mr. Crawford, Largs; T. Kerr, Whitehill, Sanquhar; and John Holmes, Joppaton.

4 NOVEMBER 1907
COURT OF SESSION
ARDROSSAN BUTCHER’S DIVORCE ACTION
Evidence was led in an action of divorce by HENRY LEYDEN, butcher, Paisley Street, Ardrossan, against his wife ISABELLA DALLAS OR LEYDEN, now or lately at Brown’s Buildings, Larbert.
The pursuer stated in a reply to Mr. MeKechnie (Counsel for the Pursuer) that he was twenty-eight years of age. He was married to the defender on March 29, 1900, by declaration before the Sheriff in Edinburgh. From the first they did not get on well together.
The defender, who was a sober, respectable woman, told him that she did not like married life, and that she wished to leave him. Her temper was “something terrible,” and he was afraid of her. She sometimes assaulted him.
She left him on October 29, 1902, and all efforts to get her to return were met by a refusal.
There was one child of the marriage.
The proof was continued for additional evidence.

4 NOVEMBER 1904
CREW MASSACRED BY ARABIANS
Messrs. Hogarth & Sons have received confirmation through the India Office that the captain and 21 of the crew of the BARON INNERDALE, of Ardrossan, were massacred by Arabians on the Manrah Island, on the Arabian Coast.
The BARON INNERDALE was on a voyage from Kurrachee to Liverpool with a cargo of wheat when she was driven ashore on Kuria Muria Islands. The captain and 21 crew took to the boats and were driven up the coast by the monsoon, and apparently had landed or been driven ashore.
At all events all were massacred.
The India Office, through the Consul at Muscat, has informed Messrs. Hogarth that several of the offenders have been secured, and will be punished for the deed.
The regular crew are Greeks.
The BARON INNERDALE has been successfully salved.

5 NOVEMBER 1878
BOARD OF TRADE INQUIRY
A Board of Trade of Inquiry into the circumstances attending the abandonment of the three-masted schooner MARGARET BOYD, of Ardrossan, timber laden, on the 10th of October last, while on a voyage from Miramichi (New Brunswick, Canada) to Ayr, was opened yesterday in the Justice of Peace Court Hall, Brunswick Street, Glasgow.
Messrs. Robert Hamilton and E. R. Coulborn were the presiding Justices; Captains Forster and Ward were the nautical assessors; and Mr. George Gray acted as law assessor.
Mr. Douglas prosecuted on behalf of the Board of Trade, and Mr. W. M. Wilson appeared for the mate Macdonald and the crew.
Mr. Gray informed the captain that if he wished to be represented by a legal agent, the Court would be continued to allow him to engage one; but the captain stated that he did not wish any continuation for that purpose as he had no funds to pay for an agent.
At the conclusion of the master’s evidence the inquiry was adjourned until today.
