VALUATION APPEAL COURT

A Valuation Appeal Court for the parishes of Largs, West Kilbride, Kilwinning, Stevenston, and Ardrossan, was held in Ardrossan on Saturday afternoon – Captain Boyle, convenor of the County, presiding.

The valuation of Ardeer Ironworks, hitherto assessed at £1500, was sought to be taken off the roll altogether, on the ground that none of the furnaces were in blast. It was shown that part of the adjoining works were occupied, and the valuation was fixed at £500 so long as the ironworks were not going.

Mr Speir, Lochwood, had the valuation of his farm reduced from £290 to £240.

COURT OF SESSION – MARSHALL v. SCHOOL BOARD OF ARDROSSAN

During the past year Charles Marshall, lately parish schoolmaster of the parish of Ardrossan, and teacher of Saltcoats Public School, has had a great deal of litigation with the School Board of Ardrossan.

Latterly Mr Marshall was dismissed from his situation and the minute dismissing him, was confirmed by the Board of Education. He has now brought an action to have it declared that he is still the teacher of the Public School. He maintains the he has been persecuted by several members of the school board, who have an animus to him, and alleges that the report of the inspector as to the efficiency of the school, upon which his dismissal proceeded, did not truly represent the state of the school.
