ARDROSSAN SCHOOL BOARD

The monthly meeting of this board was held yesterday – Provost Barr presiding.

The reports on attendance showed the following results: -

In Ardrossan the number of children of school age was 749; average attendance was 76 per cent.

In Saltcoats the number of children of school age was 687; average attendance was 68 per cent.

It was explained that there had been a good deal of sickness among the children, but several members thought the irregular attendance did not altogether arise from this cause.

It was resolved to take some steps to enforce regular attendance.

ARDROSSAN PARISH COUNCIL

At the monthly meeting of the Ardrossan Parish Council, the clerk submitted a statistical report from which it appeared that the total number of poor on the roll at January 15, 1907, was 108 adults and 97 dependents, an increase of 4 adults and a decrease of 8 dependents compared with last year.

There were also 19 adults and 21 dependents living in the parish but chargeable to other parishes.

In the poorhouse there were 20 adults and 8 dependents, an increase compared with last year of 8 adults and 8 dependents, while in the lunatic asylum there were 27, a decrease of 1.

The total poor chargeable to the parish was 155 adults and 105 dependents, an increase of 11 adults. The increase was attributed to the fact that the number in the poorhouse is subject to considerable fluctuation.
