GLASGOW HERALD
13 APRIL 1874
ARDROSSAN PHILHARMONIC ASSOCIATION
On Friday evening, the last public rehearsal of the session in connection with this association was given in the Good Templars’ Hall. The chair was occupied by William Mutter, Esquire, of Meiklelaught.
The programme consisted of a selection of sacred music and Romberg’s cantata, “The Lay of the Bell,” and was gone through in a manner very creditable to the members.
Miss Margaretta Smith, soprano, executed the pieces entrusted to her in a manner which elicited the plaudits of the audience, and Mr William Kerr, tenor, was equally successful.
Mr W. H. Dixon, Kilmarnock, presided at the harmonium, and played a solo and a selection of airs, which were much appreciated.
Mr J. Meredith Kay efficiently acted as conductor, and was awarded a special vote of thanks at the close for his services.
The concert was very successful.
