CHRISTMAS

Saltcoats:
The pressure of business at the post office commenced rather earlier this year. Letters were about the same in number as last year, but parcels showed a decided increase. The deliveries were effected with difficulty.

The banks were closed.

The usual service of midnight mass took place at St. Mary’s R.C. Chapel – the Rev. Father Mackintosh officiating.

The children attending the Sabbath Schools had soirees and Christmas trees.

CHRISTMAS

Saltcoats:

There was not much diminution in the numbers of letters passing through the post office, and the parcels were about the same as formerly. The heaviest deliveries were on Christmas Day; but on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday the letters and parcels were unusually numerous. The work was got through in a satisfactory manner.

The usual midnight mass took place on Christmas Eve in St. Mary’s R.C. Church – Rev. P. McColl officiating.
