MUNICIAPL MEETING – SALTCOATS

By a majority the Commissioners approved of the report of the Works Committee that the Gas Company was not responsible for the damage done to Vernon Street sewer.

It was agreed to subscribe two guineas towards the expense of the action which has been raised against Partick to test the right of magistrates in police burghs as the licensing authority under the Public House Acts.

MUNICIPAL MEETING – SALTCOATS

A letter was read from Mr. Stewart regarding the request of the Commissioners that he should endeavour to put a stop to the removal of sand from the shore at Montgomerie Crescent. Mr. Stewart asked that names of parties removing sand to be forwarded to him, with a view to prosecution.

Mr. Christie gave notice of a motion that Commissioners acquire the property of the Gas Company.

YEOMANRY BALL

The annual ball of G Troop Ayrshire Yeomanry Cavalry took place last night in the Town Hall, Saltcoats, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion.

About 70 couples were present, including Mr. Claud Hamilton, junior, of Sundrum, Captain of the troop, and Mrs. Hamilton. Music was supplied by the band of Mr. Law, Kilbirnie, and Mr. Fleming, Eglinton Arms Hotel, Ardrossan, was purveyor.

MISSION COAST HOME

The old portion of the home facing Nineyard Street having been condemned as unsuitable and unhealthy has been taken down, and a new building is being erected.

Provision is to be made in the new erection for sitting-rooms and bed-rooms for mothers suffering from illness who are obliged to bring their infants with them.

Mr. Hugh, Thomson, Saltcoats, was the architect.

HON. T. COCHRANE AND MR. ANSTRUTHER AT SALTCOATS

Last night a meeting, under the auspices of the Unionist Club, took place in the Town Hall, Saltcoats, presided over by Mr. R. L. Alpine, shipping agent, who was supported on the platform by a number of leading residents in the district. There was a good attendance.

Mr. M. Arthur, of Fullarton, moved, and Mr. John Galloway, Kilmeny, seconded, a motion of confidence in the home and foreign policy of the Government.

Mr. Anstruther, in reply, referred to the various reforms in connection with home affairs which has been carried out by the Government.
