It is the story of a chauffeur who marries the sixth richest girl in America. From the moment the couple move into their own house things start to go wrong and this culminates in the premature death of Ellie ( Hayley Mills ) . Michael ( Hywel Bennett ) goes to America to settle the estate and as he leaves for England on the return journey the family lawyer hands him a document which he claims will complete the picture. Apart from Hayley Mills and Hywel Bennett, the film stars Britt Ekland, Peter Oscarsson and George Sanders. The rest of the week is devoted to " Ooh You Are Awful " starring Dick Emery .

SALTCOATS TOWN COUNCIL AND ELECTRICITY CHARGES

Saltcoats Town Council at their monthly meeting last night agreed to draw the attention of the Electricity Commissioners to the differentiation which apparently existed in the rates charged by the Ayrshire Electricity Board to local authorities for street lighting purposes.

The Council had made application for a supply of electricity for lighting Sandylands Promenade at the rate of 3½d per unit, the rate which was understood to be paid for street lighting by Largs Town Council.

The general manager of the Electricity Board in a letter stated that practically all the streets in Largs were lit by electricity, and the consumpt was considerable. If the consumpt at Saltcoats Promenade exceeded 20,000 units the charge would be 4d, less 10 per cent, but for a small consumpt the ordinary street lighting rate of 5½d per unit less 5 per cent would be charged.

SALTCOATS E.U. CHURCH

The annual congregational soiree was held in the church on Monday evening, at which there was a good attendance.

Mr. Donaldson, stationmaster, Stevenston, occupied the chair, and delivered an address, in the course of which he said the membership was much the same as last year. He referred to the satisfactory financial position of the congregation; and the great interest manifested in the services conducted in the church, and believed, if they succeeded in securing a pastor, their numbers would rapidly increase. He regretted the failure of their attempts to get a pastor during the bygone year.

Interesting addresses were subsequently delivered by Revs. J. Foote, Dunfermline; Alexander Cross, Ardrossan; Professor Craig, Glasgow; and Mr. Treuwith, Kilwinning.
