DISORDERLY CHARACTER SMARTLY PUNISHED

A labourer named NATHANIEL ALEXANDER assaulted a woman and created a disturbance in Dockhead Street, Saltcoats.

He was sent 14 days to prison.

VALUATION COURT

The Commissioners of Supply held a Court for hearing appeals against valuation yesterday in the Town Hall, Ardrossan.

Ardrossan:

Mr. Andrew Brown appealed against is property, No. 10 Arran Place, being assessed at £38 10 and it was reduced to £35.

Mrs. Ritchie craved and received a reduction of 2s.

Saltcoats:

Appeal of Mr. James Russell against being assessed for £20, on the ground that the addition to property was not finished, was sustained.

Rev. F. Scott appealed for trustees of the F. C. Academy, Saltcoats, and craved exemption of £15 on the plea that it was a church building, and used for prayer meetings &c. The use of it was granted as a school but the trustees received no benefit.

The appeal was dismissed, Mr. Wilson promising that no taxes would be levied.


Stevenston:

The valuation of Mr. Thomas Bank’s property was reduced to 5s.

SALTCOATS VICTORIA v. KILMARNOCK ATHLETIC
At Saltcoats


In the first half, playing with a strong wind in their favour, Athletic put on two points, the home team scoring one goal.

In the second half Athletic added two more goals. Victoria put on six goals and the game finished –

Victoria, 7 goals; Athletic, 4 goals.

SALTCOATS FREE CHURCH

On Tuesday night the congregation celebrated the jubilee of the church and the semi-jubilee of the pastor, Dr. Scott. There was a large attendance.

Mr. James Fullerton, who presided, gave an interesting sketch of the history of the congregation.

Mr. John Galloway, of Kilmeny, in the name of the congregation, presented Dr. Scott with a handsome silver salver and a cheque for £110. Dr. Scott made a suitable reply.

Addresses were given by Professor Laidlaw, Dr. Landsborough, and others.
