SALTCOATS FLOWER SHOW

I see a small mistake in your Saturday’s impression regarding Saltcoats Flower Show. It is stated that Henry Ward, Stirling, took the first prize for the floral ornament, which is not correct.

I hold the ticket for the first prize as awarded by the judges.

FLOWER SHOW AT SALTCOATS

The annual exhibition of the Horticultural Society took place yesterday in Kyleshill School.

Mr. J. B. Ross, florist, exhibited a fine collection of greenhouse plants, among which some begonias were greatly admired.

Provost McIsaac had a fine collection on exhibition, which attracted a good deal of attention.

FLOWER SHOW AT SALTCOATS

Yesterday in the Town Hall, the annual exhibition of the Horticultural Society took place.

Fine collections were shown by ex-Provost McIsaac, Parkend; Mr. James Laughland, South Crescent; and Messrs Anderson and Gunson.

The principal prize-winners included A. Forrester, Stevenston; J. B. Ross, and J. B. Wilson, gardener to Mr. Laughland, Ardrossan.

RESCUE FROM DROWNING

A man yesterday afternoon went into the sea from the rocks at the east shore, Saltcoats, to bathe, and he was observed by those on the shore to be drowning.

HUGH GORDON, Raise Street, who had been bathing and was just finished dressing, swam out and brought the man ashore.

After a while the man recovered from the effects of his immersion.

FLOWER SHOW AT SALTCOATS

The annual exhibition was held yesterday in Kyleshill School. Notwithstanding the backward season the show was good and creditable to the district.

Mr. J. B. Ross, florist, exhibited fine seedling begonias and ferns, which received high commendation from the judges.

Splendid collections of greenhouse plants were shown by Provost McIsaac of Parkend; Mr. James Mutter, Ardrossan; Mr. James McMillan, Mr. H. A. Hamilton; and Mr. J. B. Ross.

THE PROVOSTSHIP

At a meeting of the Commissioners at Saltcoats on Monday night it was agreed to accept Provost Smith’s resignation, and a vote of thanks for his great services to the burgh was agreed to on the motion of Bailie Hunter, seconded by Mr. Alpine.

At a later stage Mr. Alpine moved that Bailie Miller be elected Provost, and Bailie Hunter seconded.

Bailie Miller declined to accept the office.

Captain Torrance and Mr. Alpine were proposed, but they declined, and it was agreed to delay the question.
