NEW U.P. CHURCH AT SALTCOATS

Contracts have been entered into for the erection of a new church for the East U.P. congregation (Rev. George Philp’s). The church is to be built in the Gothic style of architecture of the early English period.

The buildings will comprise the church, with an end gallery and a small hall, vestry, lavatory, heating chamber, etc., behind back gable. The area is to be seated for 342 and the gallery for 108 – in all, 450.

The principal front of the church will be towards Dockhead Street, and will be divided by buttresses into a central gable and two side portions, the main entrance to be in the centre with two small lancet windows on each side to light the front lobby. Over the door there will be a five-light window divided by stone mullions, the top of which will be filled with the tracery of a rich design with hood moulding, and the top of the gable finished with a stone ornamental finial.

The pulpit will be platform style, and the seating, ventilation, and heating of the latest and most approved form.

The cost, including site, will be £1800. The architects are Messrs Baldie & Tennant, Glasgow.
