Melbourne Cup - 3rd November
Backed Prince of Arran last year and it came second after a protest. I'm not up with it this year but I might saunter down to the pub and put $10 each way on it tomorrow.
Here's how our 3T members saw it last year: viewtopic.php?p=171959#p171959

I fancy FINCHE, and as an outsider at 66-1 DASHING WILLOUGHBY.
Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.

Re: Melbourne Cup - 3rd November
I only ever put a bet on Melbourne cup day and so does the wife. She just loves seeing the fashions in the field too. We have a few wines and nibbles and enjoy the day. Went down to the pub to put on a bet and the https://www.tab.com.au/ in the pub was closed - looks like renovations. No way am I going to bet on-line.

As I said in the earlier post I didn't get it on, Netta. I'm guessing, but it looks like you get $3.20 for every $1 you bet as it came in third, that's if you bet each way. Couldn't believe the fast finish of Prince of Arran. Another few yards and it could have came first.
I'd have had to drive down to your place to put a bet on. Anyway we were waiting for a furniture delivery.

Just watched it. I was bemused by how Prince of Arran's jockey ran that race. Maybe just a bit of inexperience but you can't run like that against horse's of that calibre, spending most of your time deliberately languishing near the back of the field and then expect to come through and win in the last furlong or so.
The horse made a valiant effort and finished in 3rd place at the end but the jockey's tactics were woeful.

Sounds like you were in a sweep, Sarah. We didn't even join a sweep this year, as the groups we are involved with are still not up and running owing to the pandemic.
Re: Melbourne Cup - 3rd November
Prince of Arran should have won that race at a canter.
Re: Melbourne Cup - 3rd November
Jockey should have got off the mark quicker.
