Re: Threetowners cycling thread
I am in awe - I go on the cycle track from Ayr to Troon - have a coffee and a bacon roll, then get the train (with bike) back to Ayr. Guess I'm missing something .....
Re: Threetowners cycling thread
Good going again Bruce I love cycling gailes Rd, beach Park Irvine Moor. Meg the bit between the airport and Troon has just been relayed very smooth.

Coffee and a bacon roll - that’s what makes it enjoyable
The various cycle paths around the area are great - but it’d be even better if the maps on the sustains website showed places on or near the route where you can get a coffee and a bite to eat, while storing your bike somewhere safe. Bike-friendly cafes are quite scarce, which is a shame.

You can always find a lamp post or a drainpipe. A bit like myself my bike is getting on don't think a self respecting thief would look twice at it in saying that I'll be gutted when it finally gives up the ghost.

aye - maybe I’m paranoid cos I’ve got a new bike - never worried with the old one!
But even simple things like having some bike racks would encourage cyclists in. I have a pal who worked in a bike shop, who later worked in a cafe. He said that one of their best “advertising” features was to put a track pump (floor-standing bike pump) on a chain outside the front door, beside their sign. Lots of cyclists stopped, used the pump to check their tyres, then came in for a drink....

I've seen in Poland and the Czech Republic they have little stands with a pump puncture repair kits and tools all chained to them free to use. I have photos of them will see if I can post them.
