Chernobyl

Post by Meg »

I’ve been confined to bed this past week with flu and the tv has been on in the background but I really wasn’t much interested until Chernobyl - a dramatisation of the explosion at the nuclear power station in the Ukraine in 1986. It’s scary just how much we DIDNT know and how close they came to wiping out half of Eastern Europe’s population. It’s on Sky Atlantic and I can’t wait on Episode 3!

Cover up, hide, conceal, tell nobody. Made me smile when nearly everyone’s first thought was “Americans”. Excellent series though.

I visited Kiev in 2006 but did not have enough time to do the Chernobyl tour, something I've always regretted.

I remember those happy excited but ill kids coming through Melbourne airport in the 1990s. They were made very welcome here as you can see from this newspaper report'

I watched the last in the series yesterday. Riveting to the very end. One of the best programs to come out of the US for a long time.

I was just gobsmacked they didn’t all “disappear” Bonzo. The roundup of what happened to whom at the end was really interesting - including the fireman’s wife, who went on to have another baby - I didn’t think she’d last til the end of 1986 let alone still be alive and rearing a family.
