Nellanys owned the hayocks shop bookies (his son is the solicitor in Saltcoats)Mitchy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 8:59 am Hi all. Bringing this thread back because I am trying to work out who owned the bookies at the Hayocks shops in Stevenston, and what shop it was located in. I think it was there within the last 20 years Also, was there ever one at Ashgrove Road shops in Ardrossan (also within last 20 years) or is my memory playing tricks on me?

I remember a couple which have been mentioned previously.
One was at Kyleshill up some stairs if I remember correctly.
The other at Wheatley Road. I used to go there with my older brother.
I also remember my Dad having his "nomme de plume" but I can't remember what it was.
My brother wasn't academic in any way but ask him to work out the odds and returns from a winning accumulator and the results were there in a flash !

Image below is that of the building in Canal Street I recall as Kelly's betting shop. Prior to Kelly it was a billiard hall. I was never in the betting shop, but was in the billiard hall a few times - can't recall the name.wellparkno9 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 16, 2008 11:04 pm Hi Mitchy,When betting was made legal in 1961 there were 6 betting shops in the town.Davison's and Ben Kelly's in Canal St.
