Memories of women working in industry

Post by djacques »

Hi everyone,
What a fantastic forum this is and hope it's okay for me to post here.

My name's Denize and I work for Garnock Connections. I don't know if you've heard of us but we're a landscape partnership project that aims to preserve and celebrate local natural and cultural heritage.

I joined the site because I'm organising an oral history project, Working Voices, focused on women's experiences in local industry, whether that's at ICI Ardeer or anywhere else local. If you've got stories to share of women working in industry, whether that's yourself or a friend/relative, please get in touch. I'm aiming to record people talking about their experiences for a potential exhibition but even if you'd rather not be filmed or recorded, I'd still love to hear from you! Even if you feel like your stories are "boring" (I'm sure they're not!), I can assure you that I'd still absolutely love to hear them.

There's not much to see yet but here's the web page: https://www.garnockconnections.org.uk/p ... voices-2-0

As you can see, there's a few generic wartime photos on the site now but they're just filling up the space until I can find some other stuff. So if you've got any photos you wouldn't mind me using on the website and in advertising the project, please get in touch.

My email address is denize.jacques@rspb.org.uk or you can just post here. Alternatively, our facebook is https://www.facebook.com/GarnockConnections/ if you'd rather get in touch that way.

Thanks again! 😊

edit: Editing this post to add that we now have a facebook and twitter page! :o To keep up to date with the project, follow us at https://www.facebook.com/WorkingVoicesProject and https://twitter.com/GCWorkingVoices

Captain Betsy Miller, of Saltcoats, was undoubtedly a female pioneer in what was exclusively a man's world in her day. There are various references to her on Threetowners.
