Stevenston Ball

A most successful fancy dress dance was held in the Liberal Club Hall, Stevenston, on Friday last (April 23). by the staff of the De Luxe Cinema, Stevenston. The function being the first of its kind held in the district was ambitious, but fully justified itself when we state that over 80 persons were present in fancy dress.

The arrangements and decorations were carried out by Mary McBride and a staff of willing workers, who more than excelled themselves. The decorations consisted of hand-made flowers, festoons and fairy lamps throughout the hall. The judges Jas, Maxwell, manager, Kilwinning Picture House, and Messrs. Nixon and Lindsay, Glasgow), had no mean task to choose those who most deserved prizes, and it was only after a prolonged Grand March, which was arranged and carried through by F. C. Robertson, and was one of the features of the evening, that the judges were able to come to a final decision. Buchanan Thomson, manager of the De Luxe, in a few remarks thanked those present for their kind patronage and expressed the hope that the company would enjoy a pleasant evening. He also had pleasure in stating that the small deficit which had been incurred in running the first staff dance was being met by the directors of his company.

Mr. Thomson then called on Miss McBride to present the prizes, which were :--Best dressed lady: Miss McCallum, Ace of Hearts; best dressed gent: T. Bryce, Night; most original lady: Miss Skinner, Japanese Lady; most original gent. C. McBride, Winkle: most comical lady: Miss N. Brannan, Negress Golliwog most comical gent.: T. Brannan, Negress. The De Luxe band played in its acceptable manner. The M.C. duties were successfully carried out by F. C. Robertson, assisted by Messrs. Dickie and McLelland. The catering was in the able hands of James Patrick, Stevenston, who not only came up to reputation, but excelled himself.
