Can anyone remember when the conveyor belt went on fire in the early 1980s. It is the part that crossed the A78 (Hunterston Roundabout).
The belt went on fire and part of the enclosed conveyor went up in flames.
Can anyone remember this?, know the date it happened? or have photos?
I have recreated a photoshop of the fire, but am looking for the real images anyone may have taken of it.

Re: Hunterston Conveyor Fire
Had a quick look and found this from the 'Liverpool Echo', 20 August 1980. No image, just this amongst other snippets on the front page. Hope this helps.

Re: Hunterston Conveyor Fire
The Glasgow Herald of 21 August 1980 carries a description of the fire but no photographs.
Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.
