Does anyone have a photo of Gaswork Close where the Smiddy was, behind Harry Donnelly's sweetie shop.
I was born in gaswork close with two brothers in a wee room and kitchen.
Had to have a bath in the tub in the wash house, outside.
Used to play at the gasworks beside the huge storage tanks.
My granda worked in the smidies for a wee while, hammerman.
At that time I used to go to my work at the smiddies with my piece, 3-4 yrs old, I was a man boy.

Fresh bread out of Morrisons the baker, and the smell in Adam Andersons was divine, a proper shop.

We used to play together in the Gasworks Close and the back garden.
