Veronica's old house?

Post by Hughie »

I remember someone saying Veronica's old house was boarded up. Am I right in saying that this it? It's on Montgomerie Crescent in Saltcoats, facing over the Firth of Clyde, looking towards Arran.

What a sad sight. You'd think someone could have found a use for the building, or at least the site, by now.

Lovely looking house, a bit sad though. Wonder why no buyers?

No buyers, because it's not for sale.

Like much of the vacant property in the area, the site is owned by a building company, who are perhaps waiting for the market to rise before starting construction.

See http://www.eplanning.north-ayrshire.gov ... CHRLEDT000

If you search North Ayrshire Council's planning archives, you see that there was an application to demolish the building in 2009, and to build 12 flats. This was refused.

A revised application, in 2011, to demolish and build 10 flats, was approved, subject to conditions.

There also is an "enforcement enquiry" pending, relating to improper maintenance of land and the condition of the property, following neighbour's complaints.

I'm with you on that one Morag. The building has stood for a long time and if maintained properly would have stood for a lot longer. The lovely sandstone will come down and in it's place the new building will be built with modern materials that are not meant to last. So sad

the part to the left as you look is the house's own private chapel, ive been told by people who were in it that the chapel was beautiful, that was when the house was occupied, im pretty sure it was nuns who were in the house at one time.

She used it as a guest house around 1989. My Mum booked several family and friends there when I held a marriage Blessing service at South Beach Baptist.
