Thanks,Mac! I actually made rolls years ago...it was bad...we were eating them hot out the oven...sheer piggery! oooh but they tasted good! In Stevenston it was well fired rolls from Pop's after mass on Sunday and bacon rolls for lunch!I'll check out my own roll recipe when I can find my cook book...kitchen remodel chaos right now!

I must admit that I DO miss the morning rolls (?Glasgow rolls) that were always available, even from the corner shop. The rolls that they call morning rolls here are just stodge and I no longer buy them! Scottish (or Glasgow?) rolls are so light and have a texture that is unsurpassed.

PS I've never tried that recipe nor any other. Maybe give it a go though?

Go for it, Mac! Can't find my cookbooks but Ido remember you give the top of the uncooked rolls a 'wash' with salt water to get that crispy texture. mmmm...bacon roll...slavers  We don't get anything but streaky bacon here unless you go to a British import shop :(

Cant you get Canadian bacon Morag? I managed to get some dry cured Canadian that was lovely - but that was on the EAst coast - mind you, I think Scots buy Danish bacon more than anything else.

Meg. what is sold as Canadian bacon is a kind of a thick gammon. We use it for eggs benedict, yum, but it's not bacon as we know it. Spoiled for choice,Irish, Danish, Ayrshire, Wiltshire...can you tell I once worked at Templeton's?

This was definitely Canadian bacon Morag - and it was cut quite thin - lovely:-) As I said, maybe it is an east coast thing. Anyway, I love dry cured wiltshire - you can tell I am a greedy pig cant you:-)

Went veggie for about 3 months once Morag and the thing that drove me back to eating meat was the thought of a bacon roll and a mug of coffee - mmmmm
