Sausage and Potato Soup

Post by Hughie »

Going to have a go at this tomorrow - sounds a wee bit like the Saltcoats stovies I recall my Dad making. If it's a success I'll post the recipe.

Hi Hughie, Don't forget to post the recipe, I'll see if its the same as mine, I used to make stovies all the time till the wee wummin came along and started feeding me all these exotic foods. I still like my cottage pie and baked beans which I can now buy at the fruit and vegetable shop up here in the North.

Hi John, turned out not like my dad's Saltcoats stovies. He mostly used square slice. But I think it was the cream of chicken soup which I'm not that fond of. Anyway the Dame was quiet happy with it served with crusty bread. After all she deserves to sit back now and again and enjoy retirement too. See the recipe below. Google Sausage and Potato soup for variations.

I'm thinking with turnip and beef stock and a wee bit of thickening it would have come close to my Dad's Saltcoats Stovies.
