Hot Cross Buns

Post by Hughie »

Making hot cross buns tomorrow in our men's kitchen. If all turns out well, we'll consider sharing. :puter
Also making the old favourite, Minestrone soup which might have to be frozen as it's going to be a hot day tomorrow.

How did they turn out, Hughie? and I thought you were going into Autumn, Winter? My daughter works in a bakery, not as a baker though she's a wee dab hand at that (when she wants to or needs must, lol!). She brought me a hot cross bun, I'll resist the jokes, and here the cross is icng where I remember them as pastry crosses, plus, they have a lot of candied peel, ginger ..don't remember that. It was good, typical U.S. style, large, took me 3 goes!

The hot cross buns turned out quiet nice, though a wee bit heavy, Morag. Warmed them up and had them with cinnamon flavoured butter. Yes, we are half way through Autumn - we'll soon have to turn the heating on. :(

Reminds me of my Granddaughter's favourite joke she's been laughing at it since she was tiny.

Something like:
Hot cross buns, hot cross buns,
One a penny, two a penny
Hot cross buns.
If you have no daughters
get them for your sons,
One a penny, two a penny,
Hot cross buns.

The hot cross buns the men made were really good. We heated our up too but nothing as fancy as cinnamon butter, just the plain stuff.
