Re: The Anderson Family - Ardrossan - WWI

Post by Penny Tray »

I have just come across the Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald narrative of 29 October, 1915, which accompanied the original photograph of the five sons of Mr Thomas Anderson: -

"We have much pleasure in reproducing photographs of the five sons of Mr Anderson, Water Manager, Ardrossan, who have all joined the Army since the war broke out. Mr Anderson has been in Ardrossan upward of twenty years, and has proved himself during that time to be a very efficient public official. The family were all resident in Ardrossan prior to the war.

Driver James Anderson and Driver Robert Anderson are attached to the Ammunition Column of the 2nd Lowland Brigade. The former from whom news has not been received for some time is 22 years of age, and is serving with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Forces. Driver Robert Anderson, is 18 years of age, and is in training at Irvine.

Private George Anderson, is of the 9th Black Watch, as recorded in our columns a few weeks ago, was wounded in the operations in France on 25th September and died the following day. He was 21 years of age. Private David Anderson was attached to the 8th Seaforth Highlanders, and was killed in the same action. He was 28 years of age.

Private Thomas Anderson, who is in the 1st Royal Scots Fusiliers is 26 years of age. He was wounded in action on 16th June.

Deep sympathy is felt for Mr Anderson in the death of his two sons. His family at any rate heard the Call and responded."
Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.
