Re: The ... What are you doing or thinking right now - Topic
Aug. 2 is a very sad day here in Italy. On that day 40 years ago a bomb was placed in the Bologna train station and 85 innocent people lost their lives. Including a young family of 3 from Como who were en route to the Adriatic Coast for a week's holiday on the beach. They were driving down but had to stop at Bologna because their car broke down so they left it in a garage to get fixed deciding to continue by train and would pick the car up on the way back. But while waiting on the train at Bologna the bomb ended their lives. Their parents were good friends of ours, we met every saturday, and it was the saddest of moments when we met again after. You could imagine the pain of losing your son, daughter in law and grandson(7) all at once in that horrendous way. The father died six months later of a broken heart, and the mother went into a closter and became a nun. She lived another 20 years there, never going out ever again. 4 or 5 terrorists have been jailed for the making of the bomb, but the 'brains' behind the attack has never been discovered.

I remember that horrible event Jean - how sad for that poor family ripped apart by cowards planting an anonymous bomb - knowing that the place would be full of families.

Watching John Hume's funeral, I saw for the first time a coffin made of wicker. Never ever seen this before. Is this usual now in GB?

Two funerals in three years (south of England) and the coffins were afterwards taken to a woodland natural burial site, with just a sapling planted on the grave afterwards, rather than a headstone.
Up close, you can't help but notice how the lower wickerwork sags.

Had the chimney sweep in yesterday, he comes about every two years. Even though we just burn wood, it's amazing the amount of black dust that goes around. I've spent the whole morning cleaning and dusting. Does anyone still burn coal?

Yes, and there's an absolutely enthralling Semi-Final match in progress between Scotland's Anthony McGill and England's Kyran Wilson. Either Ronnie O'sullivan or Mark Selby in the other semi will be strong favourite's to win it but we'll just need to wait and see.
