Re: Words we used
Ever a saft hert, John, found a limp bird down the rec, picked it up and carried it home hoping my grampa could help it. It was dead, we gave it a nice wee burial. Seems my big sis, Elise, and I did lots of trying to save animals.

Re: Words we used
Hi Morag, oor Ria is the same.
A couple of years ago the cat brought in a duckling which he had caught. Ria took it off him and we brought it up to adulthood in an old aquarium we had. It stayed with us the whole summer and eventually went back to her pals in the wild in September - October.
We had a dog and two cats at the time, and the duck terrorised the lot of them. It was an aggressive brute.
I've got a photo somewhere of the four of them together in the living room. Funnily enough the duck became house trained.
JD.

There was a song "hang down your head tom Dooley" sung by Lonnie Donegan and at Stevenston higher grade for quite some time kids would say away ya Dooley ye meaning you were useless. Pity it died out.

An interesting and complicated tale. Seems he was innocent?

Says he tae me, "Is that you?"
Says I "Who?"
Says he, "You".
Says I, "Me?"
Says he, "Aye".
Says I, "Naw".
Says he, "Well it's awful like ye".

Yesterday Mrs b and myself got talking about "the big light ". This was the main living room light that was only used on special occasions or if something was lost. If you had it on for no reason you were told it's like Blackpool in here get it aff.

I often use Scots terms, ' a wee bit, shoosh..etc' my kids find it funny, what's funnier is when they try to mimic it!

Wish I had read these yesterday as my daughter-in-law was asking for Scottish phrases(with translation ) to use in her classroom while teaching her pupils about indigenous diversity.
Seemed happy to use the Selkirk Grace and Lang may your Lum reek.
Would love to hear her pronunciation.
For those who don't know me, Daughter-in-law is Australian
