Meg,

There speaks a woman who knows a chipalato when she sees wan.

Morag,

I certainly remember "heat spots" but what caused them was anything my mother wanted me to stop eating. Many things got the blame. Calamine Lotion, I think, was always the recommended cure.

P.T., I only remember getting them after eating fruit. I have allergies now - not to fruit, but have never had 'heat spots' since growing up, chilblains either, for that matter. Weird Three town ailments? Previous post I mentioned being delighted to get fruit rather than sweets..to clarify, we would probably much rather had sweeties but that wasn't going to happen  so fruits and nuts were a treat! Bananas? Magic! Here, I'm spoiled for choice and wonder how my kids would view my childhood. I think they get the glazed over 'I had to hike 5 miles through waist high snow' look if I try to explain my pleasures and/or frugalities now

Morag,

You're right - where did "heat spots" and "chilblains" go. What am I going to do with all this "Calamine Lotion" and "Snowfire". Do you mind the the green colour of Snowfire, the tremendous smell, and the soothing sensation of rubbing it against the chilblain?

Don't remember 'snowfire', bet it was some kind of menthol though. It escapes me right now what we did for chilblains except suffer through them  Calamine lotion helped, but not enough! :smt010  scratch...

Completely forgot about a piece on butter - fresh plain bread with something you never get now, crisp crunchy crusts - and if the wean in the house was teething, the outsider crust (sometimes an inch thick) was used instead of a teething ring. Wonder why crusts aren't crisp any more ......
