In writing and speaking we are trying to communicate something to others. If the message is understood by the intended recipient then why the fuss?
Many a grammatically correct and properly spelt message has been misunderstood.

Unless, of course, someone can up with more than 129 'hits' on the word search facility

140 - that's now the leader. I'm in the clear but others still have time to edit

I regularly have to do spell checks for pubic/Herlad/Jospeh/Glagow/Glasow and, of course, Salcoats - all typographical with me but recurring nevertheless.

From Mr McGoogle - The claim states, “There are 923 words that break the 'i' before 'e' rule. Only 44 words actually follow that rule.”

Morag,

Language and the interpretation of it is an amazing process. I may have mentioned this before but I'm reminded of the Glasgow police officer originating from the Highlands, who, following the formation of Strathclyde Police found himself at Canniesburn Toll, Dunbartonshire, just beyond the City boundary, and who, to the confusion of everyone, radioed in and reported that he was attending a road accident outside the "R-TEN" CINEMA.
Spoiler
It was the 'RIO CINEMA'

Fond memories here. Was just telling one of my sons that after his dad and I got a wee bit peeved with each other, I said 'och, away and chase yerself' , He stopped what he was doing, stood tall, shooders back, hands on hips and said 'No, you go away and chase your own self!' I thought I'd die laughing. If I've posted this before, sorry, still trying to get my pc on the go again, thanks to oor Hughie I got back on here, noo don't you all get on his back for that!
