Re: Auchenharvie Academy Staff 1993

To save everyone any further trouble : after looking elsewhere on the Web ( wnich I should have done in the first place ) , I've found that this appears to be NOT the same Mrs Dick but another one, though also an English teacher; different first name , Maria rather than Helen.

Re: Auchenharvie Academy Staff 1993

I'd be quite interested to know if the Mrs Dick listed here as the Head teacher is the same Mrs Dick who taught English at Ardrossan Academy in the late 1960s / early 1970s. Looking at the photo doesn't help a great deal in identifying her I'm afraid !

Re: FANCY GAUN FOR A WALK?

And there was me junked the previous version of my post above ( a week or two ago now, if anyone was unlucky enough to see it ) partly because I thought I was trying to rush on too fast. Ah well. From my memories of things in my day, which would be more like 1967 than 1957, after the grocery was the...

Re: FANCY GAUN FOR A WALK?

I don't remember the Ardrossan Co-op grocery very well because we were rarely in it; and certainly not as it was in 1957 , being still in my pram at that stage. But such memories as I have contain nothing like counters round the shop, or a pneumatic system for the bills ( the only shop I remember th...

Re: 3T Anagrams

Saltcoats seems more fertile territory for this than the others. There's LAST COAST and the previously-undiscovered patron saint of seaside resorts , ST COASTAL Meanwhile I rather like this for Three Towns: WEST THRONE ideal for Queens of the Sea, the King of Pun Wrae, and any other monarch who thin...

Re: Lauriston Blether

Thanks Meg. No hurry; because I was half-convinced I might have seen something about the poem on 3T before in an old post somewhere, but my searches didn't come up with anything. And yes, after that hint I've since had a look at George's site as well, but it didn't seem to be there. So maybe in the ...

Re: Hip Flask Farewell

Definitely a big hole in my memory then; I did remember the Marina Cafe, sort of, and that it was down there, but I had the idea it must have been on the other side of Park Lane next to the chip shop. Or even closed down and replaced by the chip shop. But it's beginning to come back to me now... But ...

Re: Hip Flask Farewell

It's been great to see you all, even if only in a virtual sense... ( I can see I'll have to revise a few of my imaginings about what you all looked like though ! ) All the people taking the photos have done a great job ,especially in getting them online so quickly. I'm embarrassed to admit I couldn'...

Re: Some Ardrossan Academy teachers in 1973

I think it must be that when houses were brought more to the fore at the time of going comprehensive ( as I mentioned when we had the topic on school houses ) and the job of head of house became more significant, Dr Nisbet must have given up the role because it conflicted with being head of departme...

A large gathering of threetowners

No, this isn't a sneak preview of next week's events: Donkey Derby crowds 1971.JPG It's a scene of the crowds at the 1971 Donkey Derby on the playing-fields at Laighdykes; and it looks like half the population of the Three Towns is there. So, spot your friends and relations here ! Forget Meekan's Da...
