Re: FANCY GAUN FOR A WALK?

Pt and Meekan You are both correct, that was the same Bobby fleming who collided with the stanchion at the end of a long slide at Eglinton school. As I recall he split his leg open from the ankle to his knee and from what I remember got about 30 stiches. Maybe George could elaborate on that accident...

Re: FANCY GAUN FOR A WALK?

PT You are correct George had a brother named Bobby whom I used to play with when I lived in Glasgow st. Yes our side of the street was shaded though the back yard was always warmer getting the sun. When I was back in 2004 the old tenement building had been spruced up a bit and the closes sealed off...

Re: FANCY GAUN FOR A WALK?

Penny Tray Imagine you saying that section between Winton st. and Hill place meant nothing to you. That is sanctified ground as I was born there at 160 Glasgow st. in a hole in the wall bed off the kitchen in 1942. I'm sure George Fleming born at 158 would agree I'm sure he feels as I do there shoul...

Re: FANCY GAUN FOR A WALK?

If memory serves me (which is doubtful) the cobblers shop was in a hut and I believe it was green.
Maybe George Fleming can confirm as he lived next door and he is a bit older than me (awright George not too much older.)

Re: School Trips - Topic for May 2009

Penny, it defintely was Rosthay as I had never been on Scotlands East coast until I returned from Canada in 1968. As for "Shanks Mare" or "Shanks pony" all I ever heard my dad call it was Shanks Mare. I have never heard either expression used on this side of the pond. I do rememb...

Re: School Trips - Topic for May 2009

My dad was a sergeant in the home guard and tells exactly the same story as Meg.
Makes me wonder whether they were on the same exercise the same night.

Re: Ardrossan Full-On Weekend Roll-Call

I was born at 160 Glasgow st. (next door to the Flemings-George is also a poster) in 1942 and lived there till 1949 before moving to Rowanside Terrace where we lived till 1957 before emigrating to Canada. My dad was born in Winton street as were his 3 brothers and 4 sisters. My grandfather was from ...
