GOSPEL HALL TRIP - PHOTO

An Adrossan Gospel Hall Trip in the 50's with Jock Trodden, who has received many positive mentions on THREETOWNERS, but who are the boys? I've got some ideas but I would like confirmation.

Re: THE CONTINENTAL CAFE, ARDROSSAN

Thanks for these contributions. OILERS is right. Going down Glasgow Street towards the harbour it was on the right hand side (between the bottom Maroni's and Princes Street where Eugene's was located. In my mind the owner, an elderly woman, was called "Old Izzie", maybe "Ezzie" a...

Re: I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED.........!

John,

Our messages clearly 'crossed' each other there with you getting in first. What have I said to make you "immensely curious" in my chosen career path?

Re: I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED.........!

Meg, Thanks for that honest view which I respect and which simply reflects my experience of life. Some people I liked and some I didn't and no matter my view there was always a contrary one; and I much preferred working for the people I liked and progressed better under their management. The man who...

Re: HOW WE MADE MONEY!

Aileen, No, but I was in many a gang on the way home from school that (but for that alsatian dug) had desires on a bottle of lemonade from one of their parked lorries. We would even have settled for an empty bottle which we could have cashed in for 3d elsewhere. I should have maybe got to know you. ...

THE CONTINENTAL CAFE, ARDROSSAN

(1) Does anyone remember the Continental Cafe in Glasgow Street, Ardrossan?

(2) Who was the proprietor?

(3) Was anybody ever in it?

Re: I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED.........!

Meg, I never came in contact with Mrs. Revie but she sounds the type of hero I had in mind. I think she came after my time. I'm almost frightened to ask but am I correct in interpreting your 'post' to read that Mrs. Bush was "the teacher from hell" - because if I was asked for my favourite...

Re: I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED.........!

Colmac, There's much merit in what you say. I definitely had to work hard to achieve any successes but the point remains that Mr. Hendren pointed me towards a profession that neither I nor anyone else had contemplated nor were likely to. I certainly wouldn't have selected it if left to my own devices

Re: HOW WE MADE MONEY!

Aileen, Thanks for another wee jog of the local memory banks. I had long since forgotten about the alsatian. I had mischief in my mind on many a day only to be thwarted by him. If he was truly friendly it was never a side of his personality I witnessed. He did his job well. Can you answer something ...

Re: EGLINTON/WINTON XI - 1959 - PHOTO

Hughie, Thanks for that. I don't know how I came to omit Mr. Kirk. I did know him, of course, and recognise the huge contribution he made to schools football, certainly in my day. I did not know however, about his brother playing for Hearts in the late 50's. If this is the case he is likely to have ...

I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED.........!

Following on from a conversation between myself and "JOCKMG" [on the THREE TOWNERS WEBSITE thread] regarding something he might say to his brother, William, with whom he is hopefully soon to be reconnected after 30 years, I casually suggested that we should perhaps begin a 'TRIBUTE' thread...
