The Christmas decorations in Ardrossan are the best ever. Well done to all concerned.

Re: What Threetown streets have disappeared?
Ardrossan has lost Alpine Terrace and Vernon Terrace. Eglinton Square now sits where they once were. The following Ardrossan streets have also disappeared: - Alfred Square - Barr Lane - Barr Place - Busbie Drive - Herald Street - Inglefield Terrace - Kirkhall Drive - Vernon Terrace - Yarborough Pla...

Re: In what town is the plantation?
Susan You mentioned the sign that showed the boundary between Ardrossan and Saltcoats and that gave me the idea of taking a photo of it this morning. http://www.s173884875.websitehome.co.uk/Images/SorbieRoad3.jpg It looks that it has been installed fairly recently, probably replacing an older one. T...

There is no access road! If you travel about along West Kilbride High Road roughly to where it 'disappears' in this photo then walk across a field on the left you will reach Townhead.

Re: In what town is the plantation?
Susan Is this map from 1967 the same as yours? It shows the burgh boundary running through the Plantation, splitting it into two roughly equal areas. Unless North Ayrshire Council has changed the boundary, it appears that contributors - including myself - who said that the Plantation was only in Ard...

Re: Weatherspoons Salt cot
From time to time, my wife and I go to The Salt Cot for a Sunday breakfast and went again today. The food and service were excellent and the staff were friendly and efficient. We have no connection whatever with The Salt Cot but enjoy the occasional visit.

Penny Tray Is this the derelict building? http://www.s173884875.websitehome.co.uk/Images/Townhead1.jpg If so, it is called Townhead and is halfway between North Shore Road and West Kilbride High Road. Apart from that, I don't know anything about it. It looks that it may have been a farmhouse. George

Re: In what town is the plantation?
John Dolan was a great guy. He was extremely clever but very modest about his intelligence. At his funeral, it was said "John's goodness was evident to everyone who knew him. In his chosen field, John was a world expert yet he wore his abilty and learning with a very light touch and never impos...

Re: In what town is the plantation?
Geographically, the Plantation is in Ardrossan but it 'belongs' to the citizens of both towns. http://www.s173884875.websitehome.co.uk/Images/HolmPlantation1.jpg In 1805, Holm Wood as it was then known, was gifted by the Earl of Eglinton to the residents of Ardrossan and Saltcoats as a place of rela...

Re: St Andrew's Night Quiz (Monday 30th Nov)
The quiz was good fun - even though we lost our title. We have already started studying for the next one!
Thanks to all who organised the event and to those who attended and made it so enjoyable.

I knew your Dad, Alan, when he worked at Hunterston. He sang at our wedding in 1972 - before you were born. He was a very friendly man who get on well with people.
Best wishes.
