Re: Local Elections - An Opportunity to Stuff May
In other news the statue of Donald Dewar has been vandalised by 'YES' people after a demo yesterday in Glasgow. If this is nationalism, you can stick it. According to the Evening Times stickers were plastered all over his statue including one supporting pro-independence. Given that it was largely d...

Re: Local Elections - An Opportunity to Stuff May
I think the reason we lost the first indy ref was because to say yes required a leap in the dark and many were understandably wary - even afraid - of the uncertainty. Better to stick with the devil you know. Now, however, both options are uncertain - Brexit with the Tories or Independence with the S...

Re: Local Elections - An Opportunity to Stuff May
[quote="GEODGC To honest I'm more outraged by Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP going against what a huge number of Scots want. This is what she said about another referendum...... “And I, of course, respect the decision that our country made last year. So let me be clear: to propose another referend...

Re: Local Elections - An Opportunity to Stuff May
I'm surprised and disappointed by some of the responses. I thought we would all be outraged by the dismissive contempt with which May has treated the Scottish Parliament and through it, you and me. 'Not now - maybe later.' These words are what I would have used with our children when they were young...

Local Elections - An Opportunity to Stuff May
I am surprised that more has not been made of the forth coming local elections as an opportunity to sweep the Tories out of local government and send a clear message to May that we will not be dictated to over a second independence referendum. There is only one Tory in North Ayrshire and he is outwi...

Re: Isle of Man
I remember in the late 40's we (Goerdie Fleming's gang) would be there for the 10 pm boat train to carry cases to the IOM boat. We would have been there too for the earlier sailing of the Arran boat. We always had to dodge around the porters (yes in those days there were porters) but it was a lucrat...

Re: Retiring
I wish you well in your retirement. I don't regret retiring. I found it opened up opportunities to do things I never imagined I could do. One thing I found weird: going out for a walk in the morning and seeing people dashing of to work - many not looking particularly happy. It is a nice feeling to w...

Re: A Woman's Advantages
It was, of course, in the good old days when women knew their place and were grateful for the identity given to them by their husband. These days we have to tread carefully like walking on egg shells and pretend that they are equal - right?
