Oooh that's interesting, thank you....we know that he was in the Royal Navy in his early years, and wondered if it was something to do with that, but I understand that from 1922 onwards the BEM was given to civilians, for various reasons......

It wood seem that at some point, Hugh Calvert, born 1900 at Ardrossan, died 1977 at Ardrossan, was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) trying to find out when ? and what for ?.....any help appreciated...

Anne, Do you have a John Clark McBlain in your tree ?.....born in 1939, think he was killed in a motor accident, at Clydebank, in 1958....his father was, I think, also John Clark McBlain (1910-1962) and was from the Ardrossan area.......Del.

O.k Jackie, it was nice to have spoken to you too......we are waiting for information from Canada, from the family of Susan McDowell Clarke (1921--2011)....she was the daughter of Samuel Allan Clarke (1897--1978) your grandfather Hugh Joseph Clarke's (1900--1972) brother....also another family membe...
