Re: ww2 bomber in Saltcoats harbour
I remember hearing stories of a plane crash on the moors between Dalry and Largs, and remember going expeditions when I was young up the hills, and one of the hills was referred to as "the plane crash". In the stories, it was a German plane that had been returning after the Clydebank bombi...

Re: Threetowners cycling thread
It's a bit further than I've ever done before, but I'm hoping that I'll be carried along by the atmosphere and enthusiasm.
The route is relatively flat, apart from one long climb coming out of Moffat.

Re: Threetowners cycling thread
I know I am :-) I've signed up for the "Ride to the Sun". An overnight ride, on the saturday closest to Midsummers night. Leaving Carlisle mid evening, back over the border to Gretna, Lockerbie, Beattock, Moffat. Stop there for re-fuelling, then up through the Devil's Beeftub. Penicuik, Ed...

Re: Threetowners cycling thread
Managed out twice last week. First one, one day after work, was my usual "hour or thereabouts loop" - from saltcoats, up past the cemetery, stanley rd, then up to top of Ardrossan. Follow the old Ardrossan high rd to West K, then on out Kilruskin Rd which takes you back on to the A78 just ...

Re: Back on the wireless again...
Still doing the radio stuff. I stepped in for someone who couldn't make it into the studio in March last year, saying I'd cover for a few weeks. That was 60 Fridays ago! I've stopped doing the Monday night hour - we've now got a permanent taker for that slot. Here's my playlist for last week - hopef...

Re: Threetowners cycling thread
well done. My mileage is right down this year - I'm about 400 miles down on the same time last year. Mixture of weather, other commitments and a bit of cannae-be-bothered. Got out for a wee trip up the coast to Wemyss Bay at the weekend, and I'm just back from a quick spin out to Stevenston point an...

Re: Threetowners cycling thread
That sounds like a good run. I was out a bit later - left just after 9. Was in shorts and short sleeved top when I went to get bike out the garage - it was freezing - so a jacket was added. I was glad of that! Saltcoats, high rd to Stevenston & Dubbs Rd, and on to Kilwinning. Just short of Eglin...

Re: Threetowners cycling thread
Funny that - I was heading to Stewarton too, but changed my mind. Lovely morning - was out in shorts and short sleeves for the first time this year! Breezy though - in my face for the first half hour. Saltcoats, Stevenston, Kilwinning, Benslie. then farm roads, ending up at Knockentiber. Kilmaurs, t...

Re: North Ayrshire Boys Brigade football team May 1973
The “North Ayrshire Battalion” covered most, but not all, of what is now North Ayrshire. The coastal towns from Largs to Irvine, and inland to Kilwinning, Dalry and Dreghorn if I remember correctly.
Beith and Kilbirnie were grouped with Renfrewshire.

Re: Threetowners cycling thread
All local roads today - don’t think I was more than 6 miles from home as the crow flies. From Saltcoats, though Stevenston then Dubbs Rd to Kilwinning. Fiveroads and out towards Benslie, but turned left before Benslie to follow some farm roads. Crossed the Glasgow-Kilwinning road, then headed sort o...

Ask a “foodie” about this and you’ll never get them to shut up. It’s almost like asking a wine buff to recommend a nice wine....
I’m no expert, but generally buy the own-label stuff in Aldi or Lidl. Quite often the greek variety.
