Re: River Clyde activity

Alan, Firstly, lucky you if you have a view over the sea. I envy you. Secondly, if you do have a view over the Firth of Clyde this would certainly be a convenient link. I see, for example, that HMS Koster was doing 31.2 knots off Arran 2 minutes ago. Doing that speed she has to be on an exercise. I ...

River Clyde activity

My visit to the River Clyde at Erskine earlier today turned up a little more activity than usual. The red ship heading for the Tail o' the Bank is called 'SUMMER' so I guess it's safe to safe to say that SUMMER has now gone. The weather today would tend to confirm this. In actual fact, using the fol...

Re: An Ardrossan Datestone

Sam,

The Authorities detected heavy betting in my favour and I received a better offer to throw it !

And did you live in the Cemetery House at one time? You've certainly been around.

Re: An Ardrossan Datestone

Sam, How did you manage to get that? Susan, That was unfair. My paper round stopped 25 yards short of that bridge which, in my day, only led to outlying farms or the cemetery, neither of which I visited. You've made me realise something though. I don't think I ever walked over that bridge in my life...

Re: An Ardrossan Datestone

Little Plum, If you, as a Stevenstonian, get this, I will be mad . Susan, Going back to my cryptic observation, " WELL YOU TWO" is not your normal 'speak' In addition you refer to "THE STRUCTURE IN WHICH IT STOOD". Is there any link to a well, drinking fountain, spring o...

Re: An Ardrossan Datestone

Susan, I'm not sure why I suspect you of being cryptic but on the basis that I should be casting my net "a little wider than the town centre....." and that you are making "potentially entertaining us of it", how about the DRILL HALL at the foot of the Cannon Hill - marginally off...

Re: An Ardrossan Datestone

Susan,

I haven't a clue but I'll hazard a guess to get it going. My gamble is based on the approximate date the building would be constructed, the certainty that it was demolished in the 70s, and the fact that your post may have been triggered by a recent topic. is the stone from KILMAHEW HOUSE?

Re: Do they still bother?

Hughie,

By coincidence I was looking at a photo only this week which included Ronnie Yuille and Jim Macintyre as young members of the 1138 Air Training Corps which was based at Ardrossan Academy.

Ronnie is extreme left in the front row, Jim is extreme right.

This is a good photograph of Ronald Orr, previously mentioned, who started off playing football for Kilwinning Eglinton; progressing to Newcastle United, Liverpool and, of course, Scotland. The photograph is provided courtesy of ncjmedia.co.uk who used it in an Newcastle newspaper in the week commen...
