Re: THREE TOWNS STREETNAMES

JD, I missed your question from earlier. You could have a couple of poems out of that lot but I'll give you this from 'Halloween.: "Whyles owre a LINN the burnie plays, (waterfall) As thro the glen it wimpl't; Whyles round a rocky scaur it strays, (cliff) Whyles in a wiel in dimpl't; (eddy) Why...

Re: The Glen, Ardrossan

Tom, I had you at an unfair advantage. Your mammy wouldnae let you past the Greasy Pole. If George accepts that it is indeed Glenfoot House, I would suggest you buy me a drink but it's your round anyway since I bought one for you and Mrs. McGrattan in the 'Lauriston' circa 1979, ran the both of you ...

Re: I WONDER IF YOU CAN HELP ME....

Mac,

Unfortunately the School Place in Ardrossan is relatively 'new', built on the site of the demolished Eglinton School and thus its name.

Re: The Glen, Ardrossan

Leprikon59,

Ardrossan postal district no doubt but it looks like Glenfoot House might well be in the Parish of West Kilbride - see http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/scotgaz/parishes/parmap852/html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: EGLINTON SCHOOL SAND

Hughie, We're thinking along the same lines but could this mean that this location was actually the shore line at some time. How much of Ardrossan, for example, sits on reclaimed land? I've heard talk that a lot of the town was reclaimed to push to harbour out to deep water for its ship building pur...

EGLINTON SCHOOL SAND

EGLINTON SCHOOL SAND

Does anybody know if the very fine sand that existed in abundance at the rear of the Music Room at Eglinton School, extending up towards the railway embankment and round behind the woodwork room was a natural to that location or shipped in for any reason?

Re: The Glen, Ardrossan

George, Another wee aside. I'm not into all this technical stuff but if you google THE GLEN ARDROSSAN WEST KILBRIDE PHOTO (referring back to the Seamill Hydro/Glenfoot House connection) you get a reference to http://www.flickr.com/photos/alexandrina/3306169669/" onclick="window.open(this.h...

Re: The Glen, Ardrossan

George, Thanks too for your response. I live away from the town now but when I look at the photographs of Glenfoot House provided by you, I could be back in the running. It will be interesting to hear "McGrattan's" summing up. The other thing that made me wrinkle my nose at the Witches Lin...

Re: The Glen, Ardrossan

George, It would be a fool who argued with McGRATTAN with his photographic expertise and knowledge of Ardrossan. He's added good information this time too, if not evidence. However, if he hadn't posted I was going to suggest a location further along the North Shore, GLENFOOT HOUSE, presumably called...
