Re: Wildlife in Stevenston
Hello all, I've just recently registered to the site but previously enjoyed browsing the various forums over the past couple of years as a guest. Here's two photographs taken last year of some local wildlife in Stevenston. This first photo was taken early April 2013 at Ardeer rec/quarry local nature...

S.C. ... I worked for a number of years in the Butcher's shop in the New street Arcade in Stevenston. I remember this particular wee wooden plaque that we had displayed behind the counter drawing many a wry smile, even from the local Minister's wife.

Re: Just Joined? Please Introduce Yourself
Hi again Hughie ... No, I'm not a "Miller" My surname is McDermott and my late father's name was John. You may or may not have known him when you worked in the Foundry. He would have been in his mid 40's around that time and I'd imagine you yourself wouldn't have been much more than half t...

Re: Just Joined? Please Introduce Yourself
Thanks for the kind welcome Hughie .. Coincidentally, my late father was an Iron Moulder to trade who I'm sure worked for a time at the Foundry late 50's early 60's. It's probably the main reason we lived in Portland Place then, it being so convenient etc. Mind you, I'm glad I was the youngster of t...

Re: Opening The Ashgrove Gate + Unanswered Questions ...
Lovely memory. Where would the "bluebell plantation" have been? Vivc113 .. Your passion for researching the "Historical" aspects of Ashgrove etc is admirable. My own interest however, is more of a trip down memory lane. Having been raised in the Hayocks (top end) area of Stevens...

Re: Opening The Ashgrove Gate + Unanswered Questions ...
I never knew Ashgrove Estate as such when I was a youngster. Anywhere near this area was simply known as being "Up the middle road" .. The Bluebell plantation, the White gates and the old Orchard walls all come freely to mind. And then the S bend at the top of the hill just before reaching...
